To celebrate the 20th anniversary of dios, dios co-founder Joel Jerome (Super Flower Blood Moon, 2022) has created a new 2024 mix that incorporates his additional two decades of studio acumen, faithfully adhering to the overall vibe of the original album but with improved sonic clarity and impact. Mastered from 24-bit, 192kHz digital files (significantly better than CD quality).
This expanded edition also includes the 2004 Los Arboles EP tracks, which have also been remixed for this 20th anniversary edition, to even more dramatic improvement.
Dios’s debut album was originally released on CD format only in 2004 on StarTime International (Brendan Benson, French Kicks, Peter Bjorn & John, The Walkmen, etc) and received an 8.0 rating from Pitchfork upon its initial release and even after 20 years, maintains a four-star rating at the crowd-sourced review site allmusic.com.
While a limited cassette version was released with the band's approval in 2011, no official vinyl LP version has ever appeared until now. A scarce European-only bootleg vinyl version of the original tracks, presumably cut from a ripped Compact Disc (at best), did appear around 20 years ago. Copies now sell on Discogs for over $200 USD.
“The Dust” is what we call the thing that some artists have that is impossible to explain. Not all bands have it. Dios is covered in it. This record is the perfect example of their Dustiness. When it came out, in our universe, it was one of the biggest records of all time. It was being played everywhere by everyone we knew. We all adored it and them. Looking back, I don’t think there is a better example of an album that captures the best of that time while standing completely on its own. It’s timeless, it’s a classic, and dios did it better than all of us.
